Direct Red 80 (CI 35780) is a direct azo dye listed in EU Annex II/1270, prohibiting its use in all cosmetic products in the EU. Like other banned azo dyes in Annex II, it carries the risk of metabolic or environmental cleavage to release carcinogenic aromatic amines. The compound has no authorized cosmetic use and any presence in formulations represents non-compliance with EU Regulation 1223/2009.
