Isosteareth-12 is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Isosteareth-12 is produced by ethoxylating isostearyl alcohol with approximately 12 moles of ethylene oxide, resulting in a more hydrophilic surfactant than Isosteareth-3. The increased ethylene oxide content enhances water solubility and surfactant activity. Per EU Regulation (EC) 1223/2009, this ingredient is not restricted; however, higher ethoxylate chain length can increase the potential for skin irritation in sensitive individuals, particularly in leave-on applications at elevated concentrations.
Skin benefits
- Strong emulsifying and solubilizing properties
- Improves foaming and cleansing in wash-off products
Known concerns
- Increased skin penetration potential with higher EO chain
- May contribute to irritation in sensitive skin types
