About
Magnesium Laureth-16 Sulfate is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Magnesium Laureth-16 Sulfate is an anionic surfactant — the magnesium salt of a 16-mol ethylene oxide adduct of lauryl alcohol — used as a cleansing and foaming agent in cosmetic products. The ingredient carries harmonized hazard statements H315 (causes skin irritation) and H318 (causes serious eye damage) under the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, resulting in the Signal Word 'Danger'. EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 does not specifically restrict this ingredient in Annexes, but formulators must conduct a proper risk assessment given the irritation potential.
Skin benefits
- Effective cleansing and foaming agent
- Used at appropriate concentrations in rinse-off formulations
Known concerns
- H315: causes skin irritation
- H318: causes serious eye damage
