Methyleugenol is a naturally occurring phenylpropene found in essential oils such as basil, nutmeg, and cinnamon. It is classified by IARC as Group 2A (probable human carcinogen) and carries EU hazard statement H351 (suspected of causing cancer). It is listed in EU Annex III/102 with strict concentration limits: maximum 0.0002% in finished cosmetic products (IFRA Standard). SCCS has raised concerns about genotoxicity.
