Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A low-to-medium ethoxylated PEG ester functioning as an emulsifier and solubilizer in cosmetic products. Well-established safety profile across many product types.
PEG-12 Distearate is the polyethylene glycol (12 mol EO) diester of stearic acid, functioning as a nonionic emulsifier and solubilizing agent in cosmetic formulations. It is not restricted under EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009. The moderate ethoxylation degree provides good water compatibility while keeping systemic absorption low.
Skin benefits
- Stabilizes emulsions in creams and lotions
- Solubilizes oils and fragrances in aqueous formulations
Known concerns
