Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A complex emulsifier with a glycerol heart, three stearic acid tails, and 15 ethylene oxide units — excellent for creating stable, rich emulsions that feel nourishing.
PEG-15 glyceryl tristearate is a triester of glycerol and stearic acid (C18:0) with an average of 15 ethylene oxide units inserted between the glycerol and fatty acid groups. This ethoxylation converts the glycerol triester into a PEG-modified structure with both hydrophilic PEG segments and lipophilic stearic chains — giving it emulsifying properties for W/O systems. The long PEG chain (15 EO) significantly increases water solubility compared to non-ethoxylated glyceryl tristearate.
Skin benefits
- Emollient — nourishes and softens skin
- Emulsifies and stabilizes formulations
- Conditions and smooths
Known concerns
- High PEG degree raises contamination concerns (EO, 1,4-dioxane) if not high-purity grade
