About
A polyethoxylated glyceryl ether of ricinoleic acid (15 EO units), functioning as a solubilizer and emollient in cosmetic formulations with mild surfactant properties.
PEG-15 Glyceryl Ricinoleate is derived from castor oil via glyceryl ester ethoxylation. The higher PEG chain length (15 vs 7-8) increases water solubility. As with all PEG-ethers, potential trace 1,4-dioxane contamination is a consideration. EU allows this ingredient with standard impurity thresholds; not restricted under Annex III.
Skin benefits
- Emollient and skin softening
- Solubilizing hydrophobic ingredients
- Mild surfactant action
- Improved product spreadability
Known concerns
- 1,4-dioxane trace contamination from ethoxylation
- PEG sensitivity concerns for compromised skin
- Some ricinoleate derivatives may be restricted in specific product types
