PEG-15 OLEATE
Safety score · 0–100
Good
Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A higher-degree ethoxylated oleic acid ester widely used as an emulsifier in cosmetics; it is well-tolerated on skin with a low irritation profile.
PEG-15 OLEATE is the polyethylene glycol (15 mol EO average) monoester of oleic acid, serving as a nonionic surfactant and emulsifier. It is not listed in any EU cosmetics restriction annexes. The higher degree of ethoxylation (vs. PEG-3 to PEG-12) confers improved water solubility and a lower irritation potential, making it suitable for leave-on and rinse-off formulations. As with all PEG derivatives, trace 1,4-dioxane from manufacturing may be present.
Skin benefits
- Excellent emulsifier for a range of cosmetic product types
- Provides emollient and skin-softening properties
Known concerns
- Potential trace 1,4-dioxane residue from ethoxylation process
