About

A heavily ethoxylated sorbitan triisostearate (160 mol EO) used as a skin-conditioning emulsifier, typically in formulations requiring very high water solubility.

PEG-160 Sorbitan Triisostearate is a highly ethoxylated polysorbate-class emulsifier with a very high EO number (160), making it extremely water-soluble and suitable for aqueous cosmetic formulations. It is not listed in EU Cosmetics Regulation Annexes II–VI. The very high degree of ethoxylation results in a substantial free PEG fraction, which is separately evaluated by some regulatory frameworks. The primary regulatory watchpoint remains potential 1,4-dioxane contamination from the ethoxylation process, controlled under EU cosmetics purity standards.

Skin benefits

  • Highly effective solubiliser for water-based formulations
  • Skin-conditioning properties from the isostearate moiety

Known concerns

  • Potential trace 1,4-dioxane from ethoxylation (EU-regulated impurity)
  • Significant free PEG fraction from very high EO degree
