About
A polysorbate-type emulsifier derived from oleic acid, commonly used to blend oil and water phases in cosmetic creams and lotions, with an extensive safety record in topical formulations.
Sorbitan mono-9-octadecenoate PEG-20 ether, also known as Polysorbate 80. Widely used nonionic emulsifier in EU-regulated cosmetic products. The CIR Expert Panel has reviewed ethoxylated sorbitan fatty acid esters as safe for cosmetic use. No restriction entries in EU Annex II or III of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009. Trace 1,4-dioxane contamination from ethoxylation is a technically unavoidable but manageable impurity.
Skin benefits
- Reliable oil-in-water emulsifier
- Helps solubilize fragrances and active ingredients
Known concerns
