A PEG ester of palmitic acid used as an emulsifier and surfactant in skin care and cosmetic formulations.
PEG-6 Palmitate is the polyethylene glycol (6 mol EO average) ester of hexadecanoic acid (palmitic acid). It functions as a nonionic emulsifier and surfactant in cosmetic formulations. The ingredient is listed in the EU Cosmetics Regulation inventory without restriction; however, as a lower-degree PEG ester, it may carry trace residual ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane as manufacturing impurities subject to the SCCS limit guidance. It is not a known sensitizer but may cause mild eye irritation.
Skin benefits
- Emulsifies oil and water phases
- Improves product consistency and spreadability
Known concerns
