About
A balanced PEG/PPG polyether of trimethylolpropane with equal propoxylation and ethoxylation; used as a skin-conditioning humectant with good formulation compatibility.
PPG-25-PEG-25 Trimethylolpropane is a symmetrically propoxylated and ethoxylated trimethylolpropane derivative listed on EU CosIng as a skin-conditioning agent and humectant. The equal 25 EO/25 PO ratio provides balanced solubility in both aqueous and oily phases. The C4 core (trimethylolpropane) is metabolically inert. High molecular weight limits systemic absorption. It is not subject to EU Annex II or III restrictions, though standard 1,4-dioxane impurity controls apply.
Skin benefits
- Effective humectant and skin conditioner
- Good compatibility with a wide range of cosmetic ingredients
- Provides smooth, non-greasy skin feel
Known concerns
- Trace 1,4-dioxane from ethoxylation must be below 10 ppm
- Generally well tolerated; no specific EU restrictions
- High molecular weight results in negligible skin penetration
