About
Sphinganine is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Its specific function may vary between products. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Sphinganine (d17:0 sphingosine) is a naturally occurring long-chain base (sphingoid base) that is a direct biosynthetic precursor to ceramide synthesis in skin. It is a structural component of the stratum corneum lipid matrix that governs skin barrier function and transepidermal water loss. When applied topically, sphinganine can support ceramide production and help restore damaged skin barriers. It is not restricted in EU cosmetic regulation and is considered a skin-identical ingredient with excellent tolerability. Particularly beneficial in formulations for dry, compromised, or atopic skin.
