Steareth-15 is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Steareth-15 is the polyethylene glycol 15-mole ether of stearyl alcohol (n-octadecanol). Listed in CosIng with emulsifying and surfactant functions and no EU Annex restrictions. The Steareth series is among the most widely used emulsifiers in cosmetic science, particularly in o/w emulsions where Steareth-2/Steareth-20 combinations are classic systems. CIR has assessed Steareth compounds as safe for cosmetic use. 1,4-dioxane is the primary impurity of concern, controlled under EU GMP. Steareth-15 at typical use levels (1-5%) does not typically cause skin irritation in the general population.
Skin benefits
- Versatile emulsifier for o/w cosmetic emulsions
- Provides smooth, elegant skin feel
- Stable across a wide pH range
Known concerns
