Trengestone is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Trengestone (16-methylene-17-alpha-hydroxy-19-nor-4-pregnene-3,20-dione) is a synthetic steroidal hormone related to progestins with potential pharmaceutical applications. Steroidal hormones and their derivatives are explicitly excluded from cosmetic use under EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, as they fall under pharmaceutical legislation (Directive 2001/83/EC). The compound carries concerns related to hormonal activity and potential reproductive/developmental effects. Its presence in cosmetic ingredient databases is a misclassification, as hormonal substances require drug status and medical supervision. The SCCS has specifically addressed that hormonal substances have no place in cosmetic formulations regardless of concentration.
