About
Trimethylbenzoyl Ethyl Glycinate is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Trimethylbenzoyl Ethyl Glycinate is an aromatic glycinate ester listed on EU CosIng as a skin-conditioning agent. The trimethylbenzoyl (mesityl) group confers UV-absorption properties, and it is used as a UV-stable photoinitiator in dental/comestic resins as well as a skin-conditioning additive. It is not subject to EU Annex II or III restrictions, though as a relatively novel cosmetic ingredient, it should be evaluated for skin penetration and sensitisation potential.
Skin benefits
- Skin conditioning and softening
- May contribute to UV protection in formulations
- Acts as an antioxidant stabiliser
Known concerns
- Limited long-term safety data as cosmetic ingredient
- Possible skin sensitisation from aromatic carbonyl group
- Should be evaluated for photosafety
