Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Its specific function may vary between products. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Also known as silver sulfadiazine, this compound combines the sulfonamide pharmacophore with silver. While once used in topical pharmaceutical preparations for burn treatment, it is not a standard cosmetic ingredient. EU CosIng general provisions require that sulfonamide-based compounds be carefully evaluated; silver sulfadiazine is not listed in Annex I but its sulfonamide moiety and silver ion toxicity profile limit cosmetic use. Hazard statements H315, H319, and H335 indicate skin, eye, and respiratory irritation respectively.
Skin benefits
- Broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties (in pharmaceutical context)
Known concerns
- H315 Causes skin irritation
- H319 Causes serious eye irritation
- H335 May cause respiratory irritation
- Sulfonamide moiety subject to safety review in EU
- Not a standard cosmetic ingredient — primarily pharmaceutical
