About
Catechu (khair) bark powder — a catechin- and tannin-rich astringent botanical with antioxidant and skin-conditioning roles. Long Ayurvedic use.
Acacia catechu bark powder, often sold as cutch or khair, is milled from the heartwood and bark of the cutch tree. It is one of the richest plant sources of catechin and epicatechin, alongside tannins and other polyphenols, giving strong antioxidant and astringent character. In cosmetics it is used for skin-conditioning and oral-care applications at 0.1-3%. EU CosIng lists it, and catechin-rich materials have broadly favourable safety data. Staining and drying are the main practical issues, and very rare cross-reactivity is possible in legume-allergic users. No CIR monograph; no IARC classification.
