Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A volatile industrial solvent with CNS and mucous-membrane toxicity. Not a cosmetic-appropriate ingredient at any meaningful level.
Cyclohexanone (CAS 108-94-1) is a volatile six-membered ring ketone used primarily as an industrial solvent and precursor to caprolactam (nylon-6 chemistry). Standard GHS classifications include flammable liquid (H226), acute oral/dermal toxicity, and skin/eye/respiratory irritation (H315/H319/H335). Occupational exposure causes CNS depression, respiratory and eye irritation, and defatting of skin. IARC evaluated cyclohexanone as Group 3 (not classifiable). Regardless of the IARC categorization, its volatile-solvent profile and acute toxicity make it unsuitable for intentional cosmetic formulation. Red tier is appropriate; existing database score of 6 upgraded slightly to 12 but remains deep red.
