About
Glycereth-20 is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Glycereth-20 is a polyethylene glycol ether of glycerin with approximately 20 moles of ethylene oxide per glycerin molecule. The extended EO chain significantly increases water solubility and reduces the ingredient's lipophilicity compared to Glycereth-7. EU Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 does not list Glycereth-20 as a restricted substance. The ingredient is well-tolerated on skin, and its higher hydrophilicity makes it particularly suitable for water-heavy cosmetic formulations such as serums, essences, and light moisturizers.
Skin benefits
- Powerful humectant action draws water to the skin surface
- Water-soluble emollient that improves product texture
- Compatible with a broad range of cosmetic ingredients
Known concerns
- Higher EO chain may slightly increase penetration of co-formulated ingredients
- May contribute to product tackiness at high concentrations
