About

Ceteth-17 is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.

CETETH-17 is a nonionic surfactant produced by etoxylating cetyl alcohol with approximately 17 moles of ethylene oxide. The moderate-to-high EO degree results in reduced irritation potential and good skin compatibility. Under the EU Cosmetics Regulation, CETETH-17 is permitted for use in all cosmetic product categories without specific concentration restrictions, provided that residual monomer standards are met. The ingredient is listed in Annex III and is subject to standard purity criteria requiring absence of harmful levels of ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane.

Skin benefits

  • Provides emollient properties that soften and condition skin
  • Effective emulsifier for stable, elegant cream and lotion formulations

Known concerns

  • Standard purity requirements for residual ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane contamination
  • Generally well-tolerated; irritation risk is low but not absent in sensitive skin
