Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A higher-ethoxylation version of PEG glyceryl tristearate, functioning as a solubilizer and emulsifier for oils and fragrances in water-based products.
This 20-mol EO adduct of glyceryl tristearate acts as a lipophilic emulsifier and fragrance solubilizer. The higher degree of ethoxylation increases its water solubility compared to lower-EO variants. Similar high-molecular-weight PEG esters have received CIR approval when properly purified. Under EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, these substances are regulated as standard cosmetic raw materials with no specific annex restrictions, though manufacturer purity specs must be met.
Skin benefits
- Excellent fragrance solubilization in clear aqueous products
- Provides stable emulsions at low use levels
Known concerns
- Residual 1,4-dioxane must be controlled during manufacturing
- May contribute to emulsification issues in formulations with very high oil phases
