Safety score · 0–100
Good
Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A PEG glyceride with a higher degree of ethoxylation, used as a solubiliser and emulsifier in a wide range of personal care products.
PEG-20 Glyceryl Isostearate contains 20 mol ethylene oxide, offering strong hydrophilic character and good solubilising capacity. EU Regulation 1223/2009 permits this ingredient with standard purity requirements. The higher EO degree means it is effective in clear, water-based formulations. Residual ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane control per GMP is required. No EU Annex II or III restrictions.
Skin benefits
- Excellent solubiliser for fragrances and oil-soluble actives
- Effective emulsifier for aqueous cosmetic systems
- Delivers smooth, non-sticky skin feel
Known concerns
- Higher EO content requires rigorous purity testing
- Residual solvent concerns standard for PEG ingredients
