About
An industrial chemical used in nail polish copolymers — a known respiratory and skin sensitiser with multiple health hazards. Avoid direct skin contact.
Phthalic Anhydride (C₈H₄O₃, CAS 85-44-9) is an organic compound carrying multiple GHS hazard classifications: H302 (harmful if swallowed), H315/H317 (skin irritant/sensitiser), H318 (serious eye damage), H334 (respiratory sensitiser), H335/H336 (respiratory irritant/narcotic), H371/H372 (organ toxicity), and H361 (suspected reproductive toxin). The CIR deemed it safe only in nail polish copolymer formulations where residual monomer levels are minimal. H&M Group has issued a usage ban. Chronic occupational exposure is linked to conjunctivitis, rhinitis, bronchitis, and skin/mucous membrane irritation.
