Prasterone (dehydroepiandrosterone, DHEA) is a C19 steroid hormone precursor with documented endocrine activity. The CosIng Annex II restriction (II/37) permits use of prasterone in cosmetic products under specific conditions — typically limited to face/neck anti-aging applications, maximum concentration limits, and mandatory label warnings about hormone activity. The restriction reflects concerns about prasterone's conversion to sex hormones (both androgens and estrogens) in skin.
