About

Chilli pepper fruit powder — contains capsaicin, a known skin and mucosal irritant. Use limited and cautious in cosmetics.

Capsicum frutescens fruit powder (CAS 85940-30-3) is milled dried chilli peppers. The active compound capsaicin is a well-known TRPV1 agonist that produces a burning sensation and is a skin, eye, and respiratory irritant. In cosmetics it is used at very low percentages in warming, anti-cellulite, and hair-growth products. EU CosIng allows it but SCCS and national regulators flag it as an irritant; inhalation of the powder is particularly hazardous. Not suitable for leave-on facial products, products for sensitive skin, or near eyes. GHS: skin irritant, eye irritant, acute toxicity by inhalation (as fine powder).
