About
Ground lemon peel — aromatic and antioxidant but photosensitizing. Better suited to rinse-off scrubs than leave-on products.
Citrus Medica Limonum Peel Powder is ground dried lemon peel. It supplies citrus flavonoids (hesperidin, eriocitrin), limonene-rich essential oil residues, ascorbic acid, and abrasive fiber. Lemon peel is a well-known source of phototoxic furocoumarins (bergapten, limettin, 5-methoxypsoralen) that can cause berloque dermatitis and prolonged hyperpigmentation when leave-on formulas are exposed to UV. IFRA restricts cold-pressed lemon oil in leave-on fragrance. For this reason the powder is safer in rinse-off scrubs than in leave-on creams. No genotoxicity or carcinogenicity concerns at cosmetic exposure, but photosensitization is a legitimate real-world risk.
